The Picky Bookworm

"Books are a uniquely portable magic." –Stephen King

Zombies may be all the rage right now (Walking Dead, anyone?) but my favorite supernatural creature will always be the Vampire. I haven’t been able to get into Anne Rice’s books (way too much description and feelings. Who cares? I want the blood!) but I will at least attempt any other vampire related book… Below is a list of my favorite series and single books about those lonesome creatures of the night.

The House of Night Series

I’m from Tulsa, and when I heard about a mother-daughter team from my area who wrote vampire stories set in places I knew and understood? Yes please!! I bought the first one, devoured the second one, and cried when I read the first 4 in 3 days and had to wait a year for the next book. These books have a unique perspective on vampirism. Vampires aren’t born, they aren’t made, and they aren’t dangerous. Well, they can be, but aren’t most of the time. These books are amazing, and so much fun! Are you from Tulsa? Have you traveled here once in your lifetime? Check these out!

The Twilight Series

Ok, so Kristin Stewart ruined the movies for me, but the books are actually pretty good. Other than the occasional rant about “Vampires don’t SPARKLE!” I read these books in about 2 weeks. my favorite book is Breaking Dawn, because even in the movie, Bella makes a pretty darn cool vampire. Haven’t read these? Oops, sorry. You should check them out ASAP so you know what I’m talking about.

The Vampire Academy Series

Strigoi, Moroi and Dhampir….all the names these books have given to vampires. Each has special abilities as well as strengths and weaknesses. You might remember a movie coming out a few years back by the same name? Trust me, the books are better. I read these in about a week, and cried when I finished. Now that I think about it, I might have to go back and re-read them again.

Now that I think about it, I might not have read as many vampire books as I thought, but since each of these series has multiple books, I think I’m still doing pretty good. I encourage you to either read these books and let me know below what you thought, or please comment with your favorite vampire books! I’d love to check them out! Until next time, bookworms!
