The Picky Bookworm

"Books are a uniquely portable magic." –Stephen King

I saw these books were releasing tomorrow, and it takes everything in me not to run to my nearest bookstore. Ordering online may be my only option right now, with social distancing’s being my new norm. But I seriously can’t wait for these books! Check them out!

Enter The Aardvark by Jessica Anthony

Alexander Wilson, a congressman and bachelor, is campaigning for re-election. He receives a taxidermied aardvark in the mail one day, and it “Sets off a chain of events that threaten his entire career. (Goodreads synopsis)”

This book sounds so original, and the synopsis gives literally nothing away. Why did this particular man receive this particular item? What will he do with it? What chain of events is the book talking about? So many questions, and I can’t wait to have them answered!

Lakewood by Megan Giddings

Screenshot_20200322-202751_Samsung InternetLena Johnson learns how much she will sacrifice for her family when she takes a job as a secret subject in medical experimentation. She can’t tell her family, and she can’t tell the world. All she knows is that the job pays good, and she will be able to support her family.

Will Lena be able to compromise her own beliefs enough to satiate the voices telling her this is wrong?

This is one of the first books I’ve found that appeals to me this much. I seriously cannot wait to read this book! I’m thinking Kindle so I don’t have to wait….

The Glass Hotel by Emily St. John Mandel

Screenshot_20200322-202720_Samsung InternetThis book sounds weird. Right up my alley, but weird.

A woman named Vincent is a bartender at a 5-star hotel bar. She meets a man named Jonathan, and together they build a life. Unknown to Vincent, Jonathan is running a huge Ponzi scheme, the loss of which could be devastating to countless families.

One night, Vincent up and leaves, leaving Jonathan to pick up the pieces of his life. When a woman is found missing from a cruise ship, pieces may start to fit themselves together.

This is the kind of thriller I live for! Intrigue, murder, mystery…you get the drift. I cannot wait to read this!

The City We Became by N.K. Jemisin

Screenshot_20200322-202546_Samsung InternetThis book is the first in a series, so we’ll see if I want to read the rest after this one.

New York City has 5 people protecting it. An ancient evil is trying to take over the city.

Can these 5 souls save the city before it succumbs to evil?

This book seriously sounds awesome. It’s fantasy and current all at the same time. I hope I like it as much as I think I will. We’ll see, won’t we?
