The Picky Bookworm

"Books are a uniquely portable magic." –Stephen King

This week’s Flashback Friday is a subject very close to my heart. The Boxcar Children were such a huge part of my life as a child, and to this day remind me of simpler times. I have been known to pick up the first book in the series and read it as an adult. The books are so fun!

The first book starts with 4 children, 2 boys and 2 girls. They are homeless, having run away from the orphanage, because they had heard they were going to be forced to live with their grandfather. The four children are: Henry, Violet, Jessie and Benny. They have heard their grandfather is a very mean man, and if they can avoid going to live with such a man, they will.

As these kids are walking through the woods, they come across an abandoned boxcar. Thinking it’s a good place to wait out the approaching storm, they crawl inside. Once they discover how nice it actually is, they decide to live there. Hence, their name, The Boxcar Children.

I know I already said it, but I have loved these books since I was a kid, and still will read them whenever I want.

Have you ever read The Boxcar Children? I hope so, and I hope you comment below what your favorite part of the books is! Mine is Benny. He’s such a sweet little boy. All the kids are well-behaved, but Benny is so mischievous, but so adorable at the same time, it’s hard not to fall in love with him!
