The Picky Bookworm

"Books are a uniquely portable magic." –Stephen King

We all love Dwayne Johnson, right? I can’t think of a single person who doesn’t love at least one of his movies. This week’s movie isn’t any different. Jumanji, Welcome to the Jungle is one of my favorite movies of his, and couldn’t think of a funner subject to talk about this week.

I’ve seen this movie bunches of times, and never get sick of it. The casting is amazing, and the chemistry between everyone in this movie is stellar. I’ve loved Karen Gillan since she was in Doctor Who, and adored her as the stressed-out speed freak on The Circle. She has such range as an actor, but I think this is probably my favorite of her roles (yes, I’m including Nebula from Guardians of The Galaxy).

In the movie, 4 high school students are in detention, when they come across a video game system. This system was actually created from the original board game, and the original movie is mentioned a couple times. The students pick their characters: Dr. Smolder Bravestone (Dwayne Johnson), Shelly Oberon (Jack Black), Ruby Roundhouse (Karen Gillan), and Mouse Finbar (Kevin Hart). Each kid ends up in a character so far from their personalities, and it’s fun watching them try to navigate the game and learn to embrace their inner power. The dynamic between the actors and the characters is so fun to watch, and you will likely be like me and watch this movie over and over. I never seem to get tired of it!

If you’ve seen the original movie, please give this movie a shot too. It’s so fun, and every character is so unique and interesting! I’ve included a couple of my favorite scenes below:

  1. Great review, I still so need to watch this movie. I loved the original one and I am excited to see a new twist on the franchise. Plus, I just love The Rock and Jack Black.

      1. Great to hear that! Hopefully both movies will also end up on my keep on watching list. 🙂 Maybe I will do a Jumanji-ton in the weekend.
