The Picky Bookworm

"Books are a uniquely portable magic." –Stephen King

If there was ever a movie to make you scared to travel abroad, and wish you had a dad like Liam Neeson at the same time, this movie would be it!

I watched this movie this morning for about the umpteenth time, and it was just as good! Liam Neeson and Famke Janssen are amazing together, and have such a great dynamic! If you haven’t seen this movie, it’s free on Starz right now, so hop to it!

Brian, an ex-CIA special forces something or other (I’m fairly sure he was a spy, but the movie never really states it outright), is celebrating his daughter’s birthday, when he gets a call to help some friends out as private security for a pop singer. This seems like a pretty slow start to the movie, so viewers are wondering, where’s the title come in? I’ll tell ya!

Brian’s daughter travels to Paris on a trip with her best friend. Lenore, and their daughter Kim, basically shanghai Brian into agreeing to let her travel alone. He’s assured that Kim will be perfectly safe, but takes precautions anyway. When his precautions run awry, and Kim is kidnapped, Brian basically takes all the skills he’s acquired over decades of government training, and scours the earth in an attempt to get his daughter back.

Now, the movie is pretty predictable, but the lengths that he goes to, and the steps that he takes, makes this a very exciting movie, and one I would recommend to anyone. Even if you don’t enjoy action movies, this has a little bit for everyone.

My favorite quote:

I don’t know who you are. I don’t know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don’t have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now, that’ll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don’t, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you….

This quote is probably one of the most iconic movie speeches since Bill Pullman’s speech in Independence Day. Most everyone has heard this quote, even if you don’t know where it came from. Well, now you know 🙂

Would I recommend this movie? Absolutely! To anyone who wants a good action movie, with very little nudity, no sex scenes, and lots of Liam Neeson. Let’s face it, for an older man, this guy kicks serious booty!
