Meet the Author CS Ratliff

My “Meet the Author” posts are some of my favorites, because I love highlighting authors that we as readers don’t get to hear about very much. I met this author on Twitter, and he was kind enough to answer some questions for me. So if you’re interested, please keep reading!

Meet the Author: CS RATLIFF

Have you ever wanted to trade places with one of your characters?

I don’t think I’d want to necessarily trade places with any of my characters because their world and their arcs are brutal.

Note: I haven’t read any of C’s books, but the brutal world of his books intrigues me.

Do you read a lot? If so, what are you currently reading?

I don’t read a lot like I used to, unfortunately. Most of my reading these days is from the Legends of the Veil blog.

If you’re interested, you can check out this legends of the veil here.

What one writing tip would you share?

One writing tip I would share is: have patience. Especially those opting for self publish. Be patient and put in the work to make your writing the best it can be.

Note: I’ve read tons of self-published indie books, and I will vouch, as a reader, for this tip. We don’t want to read a book when it’s obvious you didn’t put the work in to make it the best you could. I won’t mention names, but I’ve read self-published books that didn’t even seem to have been proofread.

What comes naturally to you as a writer?

There is a lot that comes natural to me as writer. I love magic and magic systems. I love world building and action scenes.

What is the most difficult thing for you as a writer?

The most difficult for me in the beginning was character relationships.

What or Who inspired you to be a writer?

My biggest writing inspiration is Christopher Paolini. Not only his writing, but his journey when he started is very inspirational.

I haven’t read Christopher Paolini, but I’ve heard of his books, and they seem to be right up my little bookish alley.

What would you like to tell someone like me, who reviews books?

Anyone who reviews books, I would say just be honest. Not everything has to be harsh, but it also doesn’t have to be sugar coated either.

What author would you most like to meet and why?

If I could meet any author it would be Christopher Paolini. I’d have a thousand questions about The Inheritance Cycle and another thousand questions about writing.

What book world would you most want to live in?

I would love to live in the world of Alagaësia from Eragon.

We actually had a long conversation on Twitter about this world. It’s a good one. I watched the movie recently, and I LOVE Saphira. My favorite quote? “Only my voice is gentle, old man.”
