6 Christmas Movies For The Perfect Family Night

Everyone has their favorite Christmas movies. The ones I’ve listed below not only are my favorites during this time of year, but are ones I will watch no matter the temperature outside. I hope you enjoy this list!

Favorite Christmas Movie #1: Elf

Watch Elf - Stream Movies | HBO MaxFor the record, I don’t like Wil Ferrell as an actor. I think he goes a little over the top, and I don’t typically find him funny.

With that said, Elf is one of my favorite Christmas movies, and should definitely be on your list to watch during the holiday season.

Buddy the Elf is a human who grew up at the North Pole. When he finds out his father is alive, but on the “naughty list,” he makes the trek to New York City to meet his dad and help him make it to the nice list. Also starring: Zoey Dechanel, Bob Newhart and James Caan.

Favorite Christmas Movie #2: Ebbie

Move over Scrooge…for Ebbie! – The Movie and the MuseWhen I tell people about the movie Ebbie, I always mention 2 things: 1, it’s a female version of A Christmas Carol, with Elizabeth Scrooge instead of Ebenezer, and 2, Ebbie stars Susan Lucci. I tell them this,  because when this movie came out, Susan Lucci was THE leading lady of daytime television, so for her to be in a movie was kind of a big deal.

Ebbie has told the staff at her department store that they have to work on Christmas, to prepare for the biggest shopping day of the year: the Day after Christmas. But of course, in true Christmas Carol fashion, she’s visited by her dead vice president, Jacob Marley, who tells her she’ll be visited by 3 spirits of Christmas.

Favorite Christmas Movie #3: The Santa Clause

3 things I realized about 'The Santa Clause' as an adult - Deseret NewsTim Allen is one of my favorite comedic actors, despite my not really liking him in his signature show: Home Improvement. He made some pretty good movies in his heyday, though, such as Jungle2Jungle and of course, The Santa Clause.

Scott Calvin works hard as a toy company executive, but doesn’t really believe in Christmas. When Santa falls of his roof, and he’s forced to take over the mantle,  he learns more about himself, and about giving and the Spirit of Christmas, than he didn’t know before.

Favorite Christmas Movie #4: The Holiday

The Holiday' Cast: Where Are They Now?

Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet are amazing in this movie about finding yourself, and finding out who you want to be, all because of a spur-of-the-moment trip around the world. When the two women swap homes for the holidays, they find more than they bargained for in this adorable romantic comedy.

True, I’m not a huge fan of traditional romantic comedies, but this movie is one of my favorites, and I’ve been known to watch in the middle of July.

Favorite Christmas Movie #5: Home Alone

Move Over, Kevin: 'Home Alone' Loses A Box Office Record After 27 Years

Macaulay Culkin was probably the most adorable kid actor of the 90’s. This movie, along with Pagemaster and My Girl, absolutely made his career. He may not be as famous these days, but guaranteed, everyone everywhere enjoys Home Alone as one of their favorite Christmas movies. If you haven’t seen it, please promise me you’ll give it a shot. You won’t be sorry.

Kevin has been left home alone, when his family goes on a vacation to Paris for Christmas. While he’s home, he has to battle a couple burglars and make friends with a dangerous stranger.

Favorite Christmas Movie #6: Rise of The Guardians

Watch Rise of the Guardians | NetflixRise of the Guardians was actually a new movie for me this year, but holy cow did I love this movie!

Jack Frost has been recruited to work with the Guardians of the Holidays: Bunny, Tooth, North, and Sandy. Sandy was absolutely my favorite of the group. He’s a version of the Sandman, and he’s probably the coolest character since Baymax in Big Hero 6, despite the fact that he never says a word.

Sandy is responsible for giving all the kids in the world good dreams, but when his sand is basically kidnapped by Pitch, he, along with the other Guardians, must do what they can to protect dreams, and save the holidays.
