Ok, so funny story… When I was trying to figure out a good scent for my Between the Birches candle, I came across a fragrance called, funnily enough, White Birch. Perfect, I thought! So I bought it.

Then I smelled it. Way too much birch, and not enough of anything else. I couldn’t make a candle that only smelled like tree bark. So I thought to add some blood orange scent to it. That created the perfect balance, except I couldn’t figure out the perfect balance. So, I pretty much gave up on the White Birch idea. The fragrance oil sat in my collection for months.

Finding Apricot Grove

Then, a few months ago, I was preparing for a craft fair, and needed to find a scent real quick. I already didn’t have very many candles in my bookish line, so needed every one I could find. When I searched my samples and found Apricot Grove, I absolutely LOVED it! It gave me the feeling about the book that I had been looking for. Other people loved it too, even though they hadn’t read the book. Seemed I had found my Between the Birches scent.

Back to White Birch?

Not so fast, readers. Katie, the author of this gorgeous book, ordered a couple candles from me, and while she enjoyed the apricot grove, she had thought on her own that a Birch scent would be nice. So, she requested that I figure something out. She was super sweet about it.

Because we can’t totally agree on which scent is better, I’m going to offer both for a while. If you’re curious about how White Birch and Blood Orange smell together, grab that one. I promise it will smell good. It’ll just take some experimenting on my side to get the mix right.

Either way you go, whether you choose white birch and blood orange, or apricot grove, I promise you’ll have a candle that matches the vibe of Between The Birches. AND you’ll have something to make your house smell amazing!

Between The Birches, a magical dark fantasy, brings Beth to the foot of the Appalachian Mountains. Her husband, Tom, promised she could tag along on his yearly trip with his 3 best friends. Little did she know, she was slated to be the yearly sacrifice to an ancient evil that lived in the woods. Tom and Grady, his best friend, tried to avoid the yearly sacrifice, and had scheduled the trip so that they could keep Beth safe.

But of course, nothing ever goes according to plan.

Paul and Jeff, the two other friends, show up at the hiking trip, and Beth discovers her role in this year’s trip. One night, when they’re camping, she tries to run with Tom, and end up lost. When Grady finds them, and shows them a magical glade where they could hide, Beth learns more about herself than she ever thought possible.

Can her newfound abilities save those she loves? Or will she have to make the ultimate sacrifice to save everyone else?
