One thing I enjoyed most about The Witches of Vegas was they don’t use what we would think of as “spells.” They don’t cook frogs over a cauldron, and they don’t rhyme awful words to smite their enemies with warts. What the Witches do is run a magic show, using their actual Wiccan abilities, in Las Vegas. The magic show gives them the ability to support themselves, while practicing their skills. It’s a unique story that I haven’t read anywhere else.
The uniqueness in storytelling is one of the reasons I’m constantly drawn to indie and self-published books. In my podcast, authors and readers and I discuss constantly why we love indie books. This uniqueness is a huge reason for me, and The Witches of Vegas is no exception.
Isis, the youngest, says things like “Lighter than Air” to make herself float above people in The Witches’ Las Vegas magic show. She has lived with the family since she was rescued at the age of 10. Her foster family tried to kill her, because they thought of Isis as Evil.
Sebastian, the patriarch of the Witches of Vegas, is training Isis, because a friend of his has told him she is extremely powerful, and will need to have control over her abilities to save the world someday. Little did anyone know, that day came way too soon. Victoria, a witch-turned-vampire, has sought for years to destroy the Witches, and kill them all. All because of a ill-conceived plot from years before. This book is an urban fantasy, set in Las Vegas. I enjoyed reading about the various landmarks because I’ve actually been there. The two main casinos and theaters the Author mentions in the book are fictional, but he does mention The Strip, which is by far the most popular tourist spot in Las Vegas.
I’m having a hard time telling you just how much I enjoyed this book without giving spoilers. This book was super easy to read, and all the characters were well-developed. The Witches of Vegas isn’t as long as other books I’ve read this year, but even though it was a little shorter, it had tons of action, which helped the story move along well. All in all, I definitely would recommend this book, especially if you enjoy urban fantasy books.
